Do you want to have a better chance of being found on different search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing? Then you should definitely look into search engine optimization! In these modern times, the internet becomes more and more crucial for businesses. If you cannot be found online, it is almost as you do not exist! It can be avoided by learning the SEO 101!

Google has a very complicated algorithm to how they rank you on their search engine. However, using some very basic tips, you can improve how you are seen in the search results!

Brainstorm keywords

Before you start adjusting your webpage, you need to know what keywords you want to be associated with. If you are a flower shop, it is good to be associated with tulips, but the term must also be broader.
Finding your niche can be hard, but it is essential, not only in SEO 101 but also in business in general. Have a brainstorm to find all the keywords associated with your site. Then group these to make specialized landing pages for your visitors to find.

Meta title and description

How you are seen on the search engines is up to you. SEO 101. However, you need to know where to write! Meta titles and descriptions are the information you see on search engines. Looking back at the keyword you found above, use one of these keywords at least once in your title and description. When people see you in the search results, it is easier for them to understand what your page is about!

The meta description is the perfect place to optimize your “call-to-action”! You want to catch the attention of your visitors immediately! The perfect description includes your keyword, a reason to click, and other relevant information. Just remember not to purposely use too many keywords, and get the length right!

H1, H2, H3 – Headlines

Headlines, headlines, headlines. Structuring your content is essential for Google to see what your posts are about! Tag your headlines as H1 for the main headline, and H2 for the subheadlines. When you write these headlines, it is important to include your main keyword of the page.
Headline tags are also important when you structure your content. Both for the reader and for Google. First and foremost, your content should be created for the reader and not for the algorithm. That’s why headlines are great at giving the readers a sense of the chapters.

Link building

So far, we have covered some on-page SEO 101, where we can optimize what’s on our pages and website. The other main part of SEO 101 is off-page work. This includes all value you can gain from other pages than your own.

Link building is an art as much as it is a science. You need to supply some sort of value to other websites, where they can link back to your page. Relevant webpages give more link value than other pages, such as random blogs. Getting backlinks can increase your traffic. In a SEO context more valuable backlink = higher domain authority!

Put into everyday terms, a backlink is similar to a person recommending you. The more people who recommend you, the bigger and better authority you’ll have!
